At Nix Farms the focus is on cattle that are structurally sound, stylish, big ribbed and functional. We focus on American-Cross show steers; however, we market most Exotic cross-bred breeds as well. Our herd consists of over 400 head of brood cows. While we currently AI over 200 head a year, our last four Breed and Reserve-Breed Champions at San Antonio and Houston have been sired by Nix Farms herd bulls. We market 30-40 show steers a year that are bred to compete primarily in slick-shear shows.

The Champion Automatic Feeder The Champion Auto Feeder was designed and manufactured by Sam Spradlin, a 15-year old student at Granbury High School. It was developed out of necessity. The last three years Sam has had a show steer project, however, the steer has been kept at a friend’s place across the county. There was limited time in the mornings for feeding and still arriving to school on time. Thus, the idea for an automatic feeder. An additional benefit of the feeder from a nutritional perspective is that his steer was fed at the exact same time each day. The Champion Auto Feeder works with an electromagnet and timer so that it can be loaded then set to release the feed at a designated time. It has proven itself over the last year and Sam recommends it for others who may have a situation similar to him. A Champion Auto Feeder can be purchased for $270. Contact Sam Spradlin by email at championfeeders@yahoo.com. View the feeder at Nix Farms while looking through steers available at the upcoming Bid-Off Sale April 14. |
